Dominance of Political Dynasties : A Political Economy Perspective in Regional Election Simultaneous 2018 in Lebak Regency

This study examines the intertwined political dominance of political families in the 2018 regional elections in Lebak Regency. The 2018 regional elections in Lebak were contested by only one candidate pair, Iti Octavia Jayabaya-Ade Sumardi. However, these candidates faced an empty ticket in the regional head election. Furthermore, the Mulyadi Jayabaya family, represented by his daughter, Iti Octavia Jayabaya, also faced resistance from the Barisan Juang Kotak Kosong (Empty Box Fighting Front). However, the growing political power of this political dynasty, driven by its use of patronage, clientelism, and boundary-closing strategies, significantly outperformed its competitors in the 2018 regional elections. The research method used was a qualitative approach based on case studies (Creswell, 2016). The results revealed that the superior political power of this political dynasty has created a pattern of patronage and clientelism that alienates other competitors in the political arena. This is because local politics is also filled with transactional politics.
